Connect To Your Coast, Birmingham
Our first membership event outside of the coastal region was a great success! Thank you to everyone who stopped by, became a member and visited with us. It was great seeing so many new members as well as existing ones.
And a great big thank you to George Sarris and the Fish Market Southside for making this event so delicious!
The Alabama Coastal Foundation is unique in that we serve the entire state of Alabama as well as the Gulf Coast region. The Alabama coast is a resource we all can enjoy, and we’d like to improve and protect it the best we can.
Until next time, Birmingham!
Forever Green with the Girl Scouts
This weekend the Alabama Coastal Foundation had a great time Connecting To Their Coast with the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama as they celebrated their centennial at the Mobile Convention Center.
Girl Scouts Rock Mobile was a weekend long celebration with a focus on the national theme: Forever Green. There was an environmental education fair, tours on the Harbor Lady, and a flash mob among other fun activities.
ACF had a booth at the environmental fair where we taught girls to make notebooks and bookmarks from recycled cardboard. ACF’s executive director, Mark Berte and our board member Shannon Oldenburg narrated the Harbor Lady tours with interesting environmental facts about Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. ACF’s Americorps VISTA, Camille Brockett led the Scouts Own ceremony on Sunday morning in which she presented a special Forever Green pledge for South Alabama Girl Scouts.
Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama’s Forever Green Pledge
On my honor,
I will try
To improve and protect
Alabama’s environment
My home and home to others
I will do my best
To save energy and water
To reduce waste
and recycle everything I can.
To appreciate Alabama the beautiful,
And to make the world a greener place.
