Helen Wood Park Osprey Platform

Our local Osprey population just acquired some new real estate! Thanks to The Nature Conservancy, Earth Share and Gazzier Marine Services, one of ACF’s Osprey platforms was installed last week in Helen Wood Park.
This platform, which was built by Fletcher Thompson as an Eagle Scout project, is dedicated to the memory of Max Harman for his appreciation for the natural and love of birds. There will be a brief dedication at Helen-Wood Park in January 2012 at our 100-1000 Helen Wood Park Clean-Up. For more information about Ospreys and Osprey platforms, please read Kandice O’Grady’s Osprey blog post by clicking here.
Here are some photos of the installation, which took place the morning of December 2.

A beautiful morning for installing the platform, cool and dry with a low tide.

Nailing the platform to the pole. This part took three people!
Success! The Gazzier barge floats away.

The Dog River Bridge is to the West. What a view for a lucky Osprey family!

This will soon be an Osprey's home. We even saw one checking it out as we left the park.
