America Recycles Day - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repeat!
Published on November 15, 2011
Happy America Recycles Day! Since 1997, America Recycles Day (ARD) is the only nationally recognized recycling day. Hundreds of events are held across the U.S. to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and to encourage Americans to sign personal pledges to recycle and buy recycled products.
Recycling is a great way to ensure reusable materials don’t end up in landfills. Unfortunately, landfills are not a sustainable approach to waste disposal. They are one of the largest sources of human produced methane, which pollutes the air. A large percentage of items that end up in landfills can be recycled. Recycling saves resources by reusing materials instead of taking virgin materials from the earth. It also reduces energy use because it takes less energy to recycle an item than to make it from scratch. Recycling reduces pollution, saves money and creates jobs.
