Big Creek Lake

Serving as the primary drinking water source for the City of Mobile, Big Creek Lake (located in the western portion of Mobile County) is experiencing increased development pressures that can potentially affect water quality.

In 2007, ACF partnered with the Mobile Area Water and Sewer Service (MAWSS) to develop and implement a watershed management plan. The management plan, completed in early 2008, provides a framework from which to address issues which can impact the quality of the watershed, and by extension, the health of Mobile County residents.

ACF is pleased to announce a new partner in our efforts to continue to protect the Big Creek Lake Watershed.

In September 2008, ACF received a Leadership Grant from the Royal Bank of Canada's Blue Water Project to begin implementation of the watershed management plan.

We have planned a slate of activities for 2009 that will begin to address potential impacts in the watershed and to provide citizens the tools they need to make informed decisions about how to protect this vital resource.
