Escatawpa Watershed
The Escatawpa River begins less than one mile from the Alabama/Mississippi border in Washington County, AL and flows southwesterly into Mississippi, where it continues almost due south. Near the town of Moss Point, MS, the river turns west and empties into Robertson Lake; its waters eventually find the Pascagoula River.
The Escatawpa is 80 miles in length, with a long and narrow watershed area approximately 15 miles wide and 100 miles long. The watershed does not contain any public lands; about 60 percent is owned by forest product companies, with the remaining 40 percent under long-term lease to the same industry.
Major tributaries flow through Washington and Mobile Counties in Alabama, and through George, Wayne, Greene, and Jackson counties in Mississippi.
